Xavier University of Louisiana outscored LSU-Shreveport 14-3 in the final six minutes Saturday
to rally for a 59-54 Red River Athletic Conference women's basketball victory.
Nia Bishop led the Gold Nuggets (9-5 overall, 4-1 RRAC) with 10 points.
Kyla Duncan scored six points during the closing run, including a layup at 3:07 that put XULA ahead to stay.
It was Duncan's second game of the season; she missed 2020-21 because of an injury.
XULA's
Victory Udechi produced eight points and 11 rebounds,
and teammate
O.C. Mbakop Ngassam had nine points and seven rebounds. The Gold Nuggets outrebounded LSUS 46-34.
Kiara Collins scored 15 points for the Pilots (9-8 overall, 4-1 RRAC),
the preseason favorite in the RRAC coaches poll.
It was the first time in nine years that XULA played three consecutive
conference games on the road and won them all. The Gold Nuggets won at Texas A&M-Texarkana Jan. 13
and at LSU-Alexandria Thursday. It was XULA's first victory against the Pilots on their court
after four straight losses from 2015-19.
XULA will visit Louisiana Christian (formerly Louisiana College)
in an RRAC game at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
