MEMPHIS, Tenn. —
Xavier University of Louisiana women's basketball limited LeMoyne-Owen
to single-digit points in 3-of-4 quarters Saturday in a 50-41 exhibition victory.
These teams will meet again
at 11 a.m. next Saturday at XULA's Convocation Center. It will be the Gold
Nuggets' first regular-season game and part of homecoming week.
XULA limited the Lady Magicians
to eight points apiece in the first and fourth quarters and nine points in the second.
XULA scored 20 second-quarter points to build a 28-17 halftime lead.
Shylia McGee produced 13 points, seven
rebounds, two assists and two steals for XULA.
Ashanti LaVergne had 12 points, 10 rebounds
and a block, and
Abryhia Irons and
Nia Bishop scored eight points apiece. Irons grabbed 10 rebounds.
Jess Myers, with 10 points, was
LeMoyne-Owen's only double-figure scorer. Kiaria Brown-Shaw grabbed 12 rebounds,
six offensive.
XULA outshot LeMoyne-Owen 35.8 to 29.7 percent from the floor and outrebounded the
Lady Magicians 41-34. XULA committed 19 turnovers and gained 18.
XULA is a longtime NAIA member. LeMoyne-Owen is an NCAA member.
