Louisiana outscored Texas College in every quarter in a 74-52 Red River Athletic
Conference women's basketball victory Thursday.
Nia Bishop scored a season-high-tying 19
points, and
Rayna Ross and
Shylia McGee scored 10 points apiece for the Gold Nuggets
(15-9 overall, 9-7 RRAC), who won their third straight and clinched a berth in the eight-team
RRAC Tournament Feb. 24-26 at Alexandria, La.
Te'Aire Hambrick scored 17 points
for the Lady Steers (7-16, 4-12), who have lost 13 of their last 16 games.
XULA scored 12 consecutive points in the
first quarter and led 40-29 at halftime.
XULA and Huston-Tillotson began the day tied for fifth place in the RRAC, but the Gold
Nuggets took sole possession because of the Lady Rams' 83-59 home loss to RRAC regular-season champion
Texas A&M-Texarkana.
The victory was the Gold Nuggets'
first in a non-forfeited road game since Dec. 3.
This was the first of
three RRAC road games in five days for the Gold Nuggets. They'll travel
to Hawkins, Texas, to play Jarvis Christian at 2 p.m. Saturday.
