Suarez is RRAC honoree for second time in three weeks

NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's Nereo Suarez was announced Tuesday as Red River Athletic Conference Player of the Week in men's tennis for Feb. 27-March 5. It's the second award in three weeks for Suarez — a freshman from Santa Fe, Argentina — and his second overall.
Suarez was 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles to help the Gold Rush win twice on the road, including a 4-1 decision Friday at then-NAIA No. 6 Middle Georgia. Suarez's doubles partner was Jacobi Bain.
It's the fifth straight week that the Gold Rush won the RRAC award. Previously: Mathieu Strauss for Jan. 30-Feb. 5, Bain for Feb. 6-12, Suarez for Feb. 13-19 and Julius Hell for Feb. 20-26.
Next for XULA, 10-3 and ranked eighth in the NAIA, will be matches in Mobile, Ala.: noon Saturday against NAIA No. 13 Ave Maria at Cottage Hill Tennis Center and 10 a.m. Sunday against NAIA No. 5 Southeastern (Fla.) at Copeland-Cox Mobile Tennis Center. Times are Central.
