        HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Xavier University of Louisiana's Emerald Carter qualified for NAIA outdoor nationals in the women's 100-meter hurdles Saturday at the Southern Miss Invitational track and field meet.
        Carter placed second in 14.41 seconds to meet the NAIA's A-qualifying standard of 14.45 or faster. NAIA nationals will be May 24-26 at Marion, Ind. Carter earned NAIA All-America in this event in 2021.
        XULA's other top-three finishes were by Damoy Boyd, second in the men's 800 in 1:56.04; Damien Trahan, third in the men's high jump in 2.04 meters/6 feet, 8 1/4 inches; and Blake Harris, third in the men's long jump in 6.93 meters/22 feet, 9 inches.
        There was no team scoring.
        Next for XULA: the Pelican Relays at Southern University's A.W. Mumford Stadium in Baton Rouge, La., on Saturday, April 8.
