NEW ORLEANS —
Jacobi Bain
extended Xavier University of Louisiana's men's tennis streak when he was
announced Tuesday as Red River Athletic Conference Player of the Week for April 3-9.
It's the 10th consecutive week that
the Gold Rush have won the award.
Bain, a sophomore from Nassau, Bahamas,
won in doubles and singles in a 6-1 home victory against NAIA No. 17 St. Thomas (Fla.) — the
only Gold Rush competition of the week.
Bain and
Nereo Suarez defeated Oliver Andersson and Carlos Vidal Montesinos 6-0 at No. 1 doubles.
Bain clinched Xavier's 30th consecutive home victory with a 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 victory against Raul Safont Martinez at No. 1 singles.
Bain is top 10 in singles and doubles in the ITA NAIA rankings.
The Bain/Suarez team is No. 3.
Bain won 11 of his last 12 singles matches and six of his last seven doubles matches.
The XULA men are 15-6, and on Wednesday they climbed from
eighth to seventh in the NAIA coaches poll.
The Gold Rush regular-season finale will be a noon Saturday exhibition
in Shreveport, La., against two-year Tyler Junior College at the LSU-Shreveport courts.
Tyler's Apaches were No. 2 in the most recent ITA NJCAA team rankings.
XULA will play host to an NAIA unaffiliated group men's tournament April 20-22
and attempt to qualify automatically for NAIA nationals.
