NEW ORLEANS —
Xavier University of Louisiana's
Yi Chen Pao was selected Red River Athletic Conference
Athlete of the Week in women's tennis for April 3-9.
It's the second weekly award this season for Pao, a graduate student
from Taichung City, Taiwan, and the ninth in 10 weeks for the Gold Nuggets. The RRAC announced it Tuesday.
Pao was XULA's only player to win in doubles and singles against NAIA No. 11
St. Thomas (Fla.) in a 4-3 home loss. Pao and
Valaine Clarke won 6-3 against Lia Pena and Annie Carrera at No. 2 doubles.
At No. 6 singles, Pao won 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 against Jenesie Burgos.
This is Pao's fourth career weekly award.
She won twice when XULA was a member of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference.
This is XULA's second season in the RRAC.
The Gold Nuggets are 19-5 and ranked fourth in the NAIA.
Their regular-season finale will start at 1 p.m. CDT Sunday against NAIA No. 3
LSU-Alexandria at XULA Tennis Center. Senior
Lindsey Dixon will be recognized in a prematch ceremony.
XULA will play host to the RRAC Tournament April 27-29
and attempt to qualify automatically for NAIA nationals.
