Xavier University of Louisiana's
Mbali Langa was selected Red River Athletic Conference
Athlete of the Week in women's tennis for March 27-April 2.
It's the second weekly award for Langa, a junior
from Johannesburg, South Africa, and the eighth in nine weeks for the Gold Nuggets. The RRAC announced it Tuesday.
Langa won in doubles and singles in a 4-1 home victory against
NAIA No. 17 William Carey. Langa and
Valentina Largacha won 6-1 at No. 1 doubles against Emelia Koch and Malak Abarkane,
then Langa won 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 6-3 on the first singles court against Jordan Ortega Mendez, who is No. 9 in the ITA NAIA rankings. Langa is 24th.
The Gold Nuggets are 19-5 and ranked fourth in the NAIA.
Their regular-season finale will start at 1 p.m. CDT April 16 — one week from Sunday — against NAIA No. 3
LSU-Alexandria at XULA Tennis Center.
XULA will play host to the RRAC Tournament April 27-29
and attempt to qualify automatically for NAIA nationals.
