NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana announced Friday its 2023 women's volleyball schedule, which includes 24 regular-season matches and — for the second consecutive year — the host role for the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament.
XULA will begin its season with four matches Aug. 25-26 in the CC Hampton Inn Classic at Columbia College in Columbia, Mo. The Gold Nuggets will open at noon CDT against the host school, then play John Brown at 4 p.m.
The Gold Nuggets' first home match will be Sept. 8 against RRAC opponent Paul Quinn. For the second straight year, RRAC league schedules will consist of two matches against the same opponent at the same venue.
XULA will play host to the RRAC Tournament Nov. 10-11. The RRAC's top six teams will qualify.
Pat Kendrick, a three-time Louisiana Coach of the Year, returns for her seventh season to lead the Gold Nuggets. Kendrick is 133-39 (.773) during her XULA tenure.
The only first-time opponent will be John Brown. Opponents that qualified for NAIA nationals last season are Campbellsville, Central Methodist, Columbia, John Brown and Marian (Ind.) — all in the first seven matches.
Students, faculty and staff with a valid XULA ID are admitted free to home matches.
Each of the last 12 seasons, XULA volleyball won league tournament championships to earn automatic bids to NAIA nationals. In 2022 XULA was 21-9 overall and 14-2 in its second RRAC season.
