Xavier University of Louisiana's top-seeded
Mbali Langa and
McKenna Wheatley defeated
Florida A&M's second-seeded Sierra Sandy and Veronica Rodriguez 6-4 Saturday
in the women's A-doubles final at the HBCU National Tennis Championships.
It was the third victory of the day against
NCAA Division I opponents for Langa and Wheatley, who defeated Tennessee State's Warona Mdlulwa and Louise Ratiu
6-1 in the semifinals and Delaware State's Daria Jula and Vlara Kuehnle 7-6 (8-6) in the quarterfinals.
XULA is a longtime NAIA member.
It was the second consecutive year that
Wheatley, a sophomore, won a doubles title at this event.
It rained at South Fulton Tennis Center
all three days, and as a result consolation brackets were not completed.
The Gold Nuggets won the team title
at this event in 2021 and 2022 but placed seventh out of 17 schools this time.
with 33 points. North Carolina Central was first with 108 points,
and FAMU was second with 93.

the NAIA Gulf ITA Regional Championships Sept. 29-Oct. 1 in New Orleans.
Facilities at XULA and City Park will play host to the matches.
