NAIA women's basketball coaches poll of Jan. 17, 2024
NEW ORLEANS —
Xavier University of Louisiana women's basketball
can grab sole possession of first place in the Red River Athletic Conference
with a victory Thursday at LSU-Shreveport.
The Gold Nuggets (11-3 overall, 8-1 RRAC)
and the Pilots (12-2, 8-0) will tip off at 5:30 p.m. at The Dock, LSUS' campus gym.
XULA and LSUS shared first place until
LSU-Alexandria won 58-49 at XULA last week. LSUA, 7-1 in the RRAC and in third place,
will play host Thursday to Our Lady of the Lake.
The Gold Nuggets received no points Wednesday
in the NAIA coaches top 25 after landing in the "others receiving votes" category and 29th place
in the previous two rankings. LSUS is 34th in the new poll and the only RRAC team receiving points.
XULA and LSUS rank among the NAIA's top 10 teams
in scoring defense and field-goal percentage defense. The Pilots' opponents are shooting
30 percent from the floor, which is No. 1 in the NAIA.
This will be the second of three road games
this week for the Gold Nuggets, who will stay on the road and play Texas A&M-Texarkana at 2 p.m. Saturday.
