RRAC Tournament: Gold Nuggets will play Huston-Tillotson at 11:30 a.m. CST Friday

        NEW ORLEANS — Second-seeded Xavier University of Louisiana will play seventh-seeded Huston-Tillotson at 11:30 a.m. CST Friday in the women's basketball quarterfinals of the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament at Rapides Parish Coliseum in Alexandria, La.
        Eight of the RRAC's 12 teams qualified. The champion will receive an automatic bid to NAIA nationals, which will begin March 15 and conclude March 26.
        If XULA advances, it would play in the semifinals against third-seeded LSU-Alexandria or sixth-seeded Our Lady of the Lake at 1 p.m. Saturday. The championship game will tip off at 2 p.m. Sunday.
        The Gold Nuggets are 23-5 overall and tied for second with LSUA in the RRAC regular-season standings at 19-3. XULA won a tiebreaker with LSUA for the No. 2 seed.
        XULA was 2-0 against Huston-Tillotson during the regular season. The Gold Nuggets won 65-61 Jan. 4 at Austin, Texas, and 55-46 Feb. 22 at the Convocation Center.
        XULA statistical leaders include Taylor Dewitt with 13 points per game, 5.8 rebounds per game, 46.5-percent field-goal accuracy, 123 made free throws, 28 games played and 26 games started, Patricia Sosa Lora with 82.4-percent free-throw accuracy, Shylia McGee with 36 made 3-pointers, Jaleah LaFargue with 42.9-percent 3-point field-goal accuracy, 71 assists and 54 steals, Zaria Harleaux with 17 blocked shots and 28 games played, and Jordyn Manning with 28 games played.
        XULA seeks its first conference tournament title since winning 56-52 in overtime at Edward Waters in the 2021 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference final. This is XULA's third season in the RRAC; the Gold Nuggets defeated Our Lady of the Lake 49-37 in the opening round of the 2023 tournament, then lost 68-44 to LSU-Shreveport in the semifinals.
