MARION, Ind. — Xavier University of Louisiana narrowly missed a school record in the preliminaries of the women's 1,600-meter relay Thursday evening and advanced to the final at NAIA outdoor track and field nationals.
The Gold Nuggets'
Fedjine Bell,
Jaelyn Mitchell,
Vanessa Oladapo and
Kynnedy Turner placed second in their heat and seventh overall in 3 minutes, 49.66 seconds. It's the second-fastest time in school history; the Gold Nuggets' Shalysa Wray, Ky'Reon McBride, Ry-Anne Riley and Alexis Williams ran in 3:48.75 in the 2019 prelims at NAIA nationals.
In the Gold Nuggets' other events Thursday:
• Turner ran the 100 in 11.94 to place 16th out of 22 in the preliminaries.
• Three Gold Nuggets were among 35 in the 100 hurdles prelims.
Kylar Coleman was 14th in 14.56,
Jade Harris was 15th in 14.56, and
Leojai Hibbert was 25th in 14.91.

Fedjine Bell was 19th out of 20 in the 400 prelims with 59.84.

Kahdijah Bailey was 19th out of 28 in the triple jump with 11.50 meters/37 feet, 9 inches.
Also competing for the Gold Nuggets Friday — the third and final day of the meet — will be
Elise Adams in the discus, Bailey and Hibbert in the high jump and the 400-meter relay team of
Hannah Stoutmire,
Nevaeh Lacey,Mitchell and Turner in the final.
