GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Gold Nuggets leaped three spots in the team competition to claim third place in the Southern States Athletic Conference Indoor Championships here Saturday.
Xavier had been in 6th after Day 1, but put together an impressive series of performances on Day 2.
The most impressive showing for the Gold Nuggets was in the 60-meter hurdles, where Jade Harris, Ariyah Edwards, and Rochelle Jeffries went first, second, and fourth. Harris' 9.01 was nine-tenths ahead of the field.
When the hurdles were not on the track, XULA still fared will. Breanna Clarke was third in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.60.
Middle distances were also a boon. The 4X800 relay team was also good for a podium finish. The team of Chris-Ann Edwards, Jayda Love, Kayla Garrett, Madison Marshall, and Jade Harris placed third.
Edwards and Garrett also placed 6th and 7th, respectively, in the 800, while Garrett took 5th in the 600 and Edwards 8th in the 1,000.
In the field events, London Provo took third in the triple jump with a 10.72-meter effort, while Damysia Walls was fourth in the shotput, an event in which three Gold Nuggets scored points.
Joining Walls in the top 10 were Tori Robinson-Thomas and Leojai Hibbert, with 7th- and 8th-place finishes.
Robinson-Thomas had an incredibly busy meet. She competed in and won the women's pentathlon.
