NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana was third Wednesday when the NAIA announced its first women's tennis coaches poll of the 2024-25 season.
The Gold Nuggets are in the preseason top 10 for the eighth consecutive season and the preseason top 25 for the 13th consecutive season. XULA extended its top-25 streak to 100 polls dating to May 1, 2012.
The Gold Nuggets are in the top 25 for the 145th time in the last 155 polls dating to Feb. 25, 2004. That does not include the 2005-06 season, when XULA canceled intercollegiate competition in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Returning players include Mbali Langa, McKenna Wheatley and Amira Bergaoui, NAIA All-Americans last season. Alan Green is in his 22nd season as head coach. XULA was 23-6 last season, reached the NAIA national semifinals and set a program record for season victories.
XULA will compete Sept. 19-21 in the HBCU National Championships at College Park, Ga. — that's an Atlanta suburb — and will play host to the NAIA Gulf ITA Regional Championships Sept. 27-29 at XULA and City Park. The Gold Nuggets will play dual matches during the spring semester and attempt to qualify for NAIA nationals for the 13th consecutive season.
The second of seven NAIA coaches polls in 2024-25 will be announced Feb. 12.
