RESERVE, La. — Xavier University of Louisiana softball is 5-1 for the first time in its five-year history after defeating Texas College 5-0 and 13-5 Saturday at Regala Park.
The games were the Gold Nuggets' home and RRAC openers. The second game was halted in the fifth inning because of the eight-run rule.
Next week the Gold Nuggets will travel to Crowley, La., for a 1 p.m. Wednesday non-conference doubleheader at John Melvin, then play host to Louisiana Christian at 1 p.m. Saturday at The Fly — located in Audubon Riverview Park, 6500 Magazine St., New Orleans LA 70118 — in an RRAC doubleheader.
Game 1
• XULA's
Adrianna Phillips pitched a complete game. Phillips allowed three hits, walked three and struck out four.

Amireeya Malveaux tripled and had three RBIs.
• The Gold Nuggets scored three times in the first inning and twice in the second.
Game 2

Sequoia Lewis had three RBIs, and
Madison Winston had two RBIs.
• It was the second straight day that the Gold Nuggets produced double-digit runs in the second game of a doubleheader. Friday they won 18-9 at NCAA Division I Alcorn State.
• The Gold Nuggets' best six-game start before this season was 3-3 in 2023.
• Ariana Chapa doubled twice for Texas College (0-2, 0-2).
