BATON ROUGE, La. - The Xavier men's and women's track teams made their second trip to the Capital City in as many weeks for an indoor meet, and this week, another collection of athletes performed well against a wide range of competition.
The stars of the day were the men's sprinters, as Xavier claimed two of the top three places in the 200 and three of the top 10 positions in the 400.
D'Kirian Allen placed first in the 200-meter race with a 22.51, while Andrew Gillips took third with a 22.90.
In the 400, Karri Noel took second with a 50.65 effort. Derek Favorite took sixth and Kamal Webb eighth with respective times of 52.77 and 53.25.
Other top performers for the Gold Rush were Kameron Loyd, whose 6.82-meter effort was good enough for sixth in the long jump, and Mansur Ali, who took seventh in the shot put with a 13.99-meter throw.
The XULA women's effort was highlighted by 60-meter hurdler Rochelle Jeffries, who placed seventh with an 8.88 effort, which showed solid progress from her 9.01 qualifying time from the morning preliminary heats.
Jordyn Hentz, who took eighth in the women's long jump with a 5.16-meter effort, and Jordan Blair, whose 1:04.06 was good enough for ninth in the 400, rounded out the women's top performers.
