Women's game against Southwest cancelled, but Women and Girls in Sports festivities still on

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The scheduled Red River Athletic Conference game between the Xavier women's basketball team and Southwest has been cancelled, but the University will still celebrate National Women and Girls in Sports Day.

The Gold Nuggets will receive credit for a win as Southwest informed XULA officials on Wednesday that the Mustangs were forfeiting the contest, which was slated for 5:30 p.m. Thursday night.

The men's basketball game, scheduled for 7:30 p.m., will still take place as planned, with festivities around Women and Girls in Sports Day.

Girls ages 5 to 18 are encouraged to attend the event and interact with members of the XULA women's team.

After the forfeit is applied, Xavier's new record will stand at 11-8 overall and 8-6 in conference. XULA's women will return to action Saturday with a 1 p.m. home contest against RRAC opponent North Texas-Dallas.
