HAMMOND, La. - Xavier's women's track team answered a big test well on Friday, taking second place in the Strawberry Relays, the Gold Nuggets' first team-scored meet of the outdoor season.
Southern University was the first-place team, and Xavier outscored NCAA Division I teams from hosting Southeastern Louisiana, as well as Nicholls State, the University of New Orleans, and Mississippi Valley, among others.Â
The big moment of the day was the Gold Nuggets going 1, 2, and 5 in the 100-meter hurdles. Jade Harris, already a qualifier for the NAIA national meet, earned gold with a run of 14.76, while Charieon Doxley took silver with a 15.11 and Tori Robinson-Thomas fifth with a 15.72.Â
Jordan Blair had a big moment in the 200, claiming silver with a 25.64 run. In the field events, Charity Johnson earned bronze in the discus with a 41.78-meter throw.Â
In a statistical oddity, the Gold Nuggets claimed fourth and fifth in three events.Â
Johnson and Cailyn Riley went 4-5 in the hammer throw with respective efforts of 38.79 and 35.09 meters. Riley was also 8th in the javelin.Â
Doxley and Rochelle Jeffries went 4-5 in the long jump with 5.65 and 5.63 best efforts, checking in within two-tenths of a meter of the NAIA qualifying standard of 5.78. Doxley also tied for fourth in the high jump with a 4-foot-11 clearance.Â
Jordan Henze and London Provo went 4-5 in the triple jump with 10.9 and 10.7-meter efforts.Â
Damysia Walls took fourth in the shot put with a best throw of 11.78 meters, and Chris-Ann Edwards placed fourth in the 800 with a run of 2:18.76.Â
