NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's
Jada McBean was selected the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week for March 29-April 4.
McBean — a freshman from Kingston, Jamaica, a graduate of Wolmers High School For Girls and an NAIA All-American during the recently completed indoor season — produced top-10 finishes in the 100- and 200-meter dashes in the LSU Battle on the Bayou at Baton Rouge, La. She finished eighth in the 200 in 24.39 seconds, an NAIA A-qualifying mark for next month's national meet. McBean finished 10th in the 100 in 11.99.
The GCAC award is the first for McBean, who is tied for 10th this season among NAIA women in the 100 and sixth in the 200. Rankings are based on fastest times.
Next for XULA's women and men: the University of Mobile Invitational at Gulf Shores, Ala., Saturday. It will be the final XULA competition before the GCAC Championships April 23-24 at Jacksonville, Fla.
