NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's DaNya Horne was selected Red River Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week in women's field for March 21-27.
        The RRAC announced the award Tuesday.
        Horne — a junior from Omaha, Neb., and a graduate of North High School — won the discus at the Prairie View Relays in Prairie View, Texas, with a facility-record throw of 36.42 meters/119 feet, 6 inches. Horne placed fifth in the shot put at 10.48 meters/34 feet, 4 3/4 inches.
        The Gold Nuggets swept the conference awards this week. Emerald Carter repeated as RRAC Athlete of the Week in track.
        Next for XULA's women and men will be the Southern Miss Invitational Friday and Saturday at Hattiesburg, Miss.
