NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's DaNya Horne is the Red River Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week in women's field for the first time this season and the third time in her career.
        The RRAC announced Tuesday that Horne won for April 10-16.
        Horne — a senior from Omaha, Neb., and a graduate of North High School — won the shot put in 10.90 meters/35 feet, 9 1/4 inches at the Southeastern Strawberry Relays in Hammond, La. Ten competed, and Horne finished ahead of six athletes from NCAA Division I.
        Horne was NAIA All-America in the discus in 2022.
        Next for XULA's women and men will be the RRAC Championships April 28-29 at San Antonio, Texas. Antonian High School's Ferrara Stadium — 6425 West Ave., zip code 78213 — will be the venue.
