National qualifier Emerald Carter earns RRAC award

NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's Emerald Carter was selected Red River Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week in women's track for March 27-April 2.
The RRAC announced Tuesday the award.
Carter — a senior from Houston suburb Cypress, Texas, and a graduate of Cypress Woods High School — finished second in the 100-meter hurdles at the Southern Miss Invitational, and her time of 14.41 seconds made the A-qualifying list for next month's NAIA nationals.
Carter also ran the second segment of the 400 relay. The Gold Nuggets' time of 48.07 missed a B-qualifying mark by seven-hundredths of a second. Carter's relay teammates were Darryan Horton, Olevia Brown and Kynnedy Turner.
This is Carter's fourth career RRAC award and her first this season. She won in three consecutive weeks in 2022.
NAIA nationals will be May 24-26 at Marion, Ind. Next for XULA's women and men will be Southern University's Pelican Relays Saturday at Baton Rouge, La. A.W. Mumford Stadium will be the venue.
