Skylah Barton joined
Emerald Carter as qualifiers for NAIA outdoor nationals
in the women's division of the Pelican Relays track and field meet Saturday.
The women's 400-meter relay team
of Horton, Ford, Carter and Turner finished third with a time of 47.43 seconds, nearly
half a second faster than the NAIA's A-qualifying standard of 47.85.
Turner placed third and produced an A-mark in the 200; her 24.57 beat the NAIA's 24.65.
Barton ran the 800 in 2:15.21 to place second
and meet the NAIA's B-mark of 2:16.
Carter, who qualified at the previous meet in the 100
hurdles, lowered her A-qualifying time in that event to 13.99 and finished first. She is the third NAIA woman to break 14 seconds
during the 2023 outdoor season.br
Turner won the 100 (12.01)
and was third in the 200 (24.57). Barton won the 1,500 (5:01.69),
and
Amber Parks won the 5,000 (22:39.94). In all the Gold Nuggets won four events.
There was no team scoring.
NAIA nationals will be May 24-26 at Marion, Ind.
Next for XULA: the Southeastern Strawberry Relays in Hammond, La.,
on Saturday, April 15.
