MARION, Ind. —
Xavier University of Louisiana advanced to the finals in two more events Thursday
at the 2023 NAIA Women's Outdoor Track and Field National Championship.
Emerald Carter qualified in the 100-meter hurdles
in 13.90 seconds, and the 1,600 relay team of
Fedjine Bell,
Ariel Ford, Carter and
Kynnedy Turner
qualified in 3:51.39.
Carter, an All-American in the 100 hurdles in 2021,
was the sixth fastest qualifier in 13.90 seconds. Central Methodist freshman Gizel Clayton
led with 13.51.
The relay team's time of 3:51.39
was XULA's fastest since 3:48.75 in the 2019 NAIA national preliminaries at Gulf Shores, Ala.
Ford, then a freshman, was a member of that team. Indiana Tech's 3:46.76 led the qualifiers.

Zoe Cordova placed 31st out of 31 triple jumpers
with 10.37 meters/34 feet, one-quarter inch. William Carey freshman
Machaeda Linton won with 12.52 meters/41 feet, 1 inch. Linton won the long jump Wednesday.
Not advancing to finals were
Jade Harris and
Kyla Coleman in the 100 hurdles,
Skylah Barton in the 800
and Turner in the 100. Out of 37 hurdlers, Harris was 24th in 14.66, and Coleman was 34th in 15.11.
Barton was 21st out of 23 in the 800 with 2:20.17, and Turner was 13th out of 26 in the 100 with 11.88.
Leading qualifiers were Kylie Sauder of Grace with 2:09.82 in the 800 and Denai Wilson of Florida Memorial with 11.54 in the 100.
The three-day meet will conclude Friday with
five Gold Nuggets competing in four events — times Eastern Daylight:
