       MARION, Ind. — Xavier University of Louisiana's
Emerald Carter,
Kynnedy Turner and
DaNya Horne earned All-America Friday as the result of top-eight finishes at the 2023 NAIA Women's Outdoor Track and Field National Championship.
       Carter, a senior, placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in 13.78 seconds. Carter was All-America in this event for the second time in three years. William Carey sophomore Salieci Myles won in 13.28.
       Turner, a sophomore, ran 200 meters in 24.28 to place eighth. Cumberland sophomore Praise Idamadudu won in 23.60.
       Horne, a senior, was All-America in the discus for the second consecutive year. Horne placed eighth with 44.35 meters/145 feet, 6 inches and broke her school record of 43.49 meters/142 feet, 8 inches from 2022 NAIA nationals. Indiana Wesleyan junior Princess Kara won in 52.77 meters/173 feet, 2 inches.
       The Gold Nuggets tied for 37th with Taylor in team scoring with seven points. British Columbia was the women's champion with 104 points, and William Carey was second with 71.
       XULA's 1,600 relay team placed ninth in the final with 3:53.45. Members were

Ariel Ford,
Vanessa Oladapo and Turner.
       "I'm extremely proud of our men and women and my coaching staff," said fifth-year XULA head coach Yhann Plummer, whose men tied for 14th in team scoring. "We worked hard all year. We endured lots of ups and downs with injuries — but everyone stepped up when it mattered most. It's good to see the smiles on their faces. And we also have a
national championship! It was a great day."
