SAN ANTONIO, Texas —
Xavier University of Louisiana lost 9-0 and 10-2 Saturday to
Our Lady of the Lake, the NAIA's top-ranked softball team.
T'Auna Fenroy and
Najah Nicholas drove in the only XULA runs,
both in the fourth inning of the second game — Fenroy on a single that scored
Madison Winston,
Nicholas on a fielder's choice that scored Fenroy.
XULA became the first OLLU opponent in 16 games to score more than once.
OLLU produced 12 shutouts in its previous 15 games and allowed one run in each of the other three games.
First-game winning pitcher Cassandra Valdez (13-0)
struck out 11 and had four RBIs. Valdez and Madison Garza homered in the opener.
In the second game Garza had three hits and three RBIs, and Celina Wilharm homered.
Valdez's home run was her NAIA-leading 12th of the season.
XULA's only extra-base hit was a first-game double by
Rayne Althaus.
XULA (7-11 overall, 5-7 RRAC) lost 3-of-4 on this trip, which included a
Friday doubleheader split
with Texas A&M-San Antonio. Including four forfeit victories against Huston-Tillotson
— the Rams abandoned their remaining schedule — Our Lady of the Lake is 35-1 and 12-0 with a 31-game win streak.
The Gold Nuggets will return to Texas next week
for a 1 p.m. Thursday RRAC doubleheader at Texas A&M-Texarkana and a 2 p.m.
Friday non-conference doubleheader against Dallas Christian in Farmers Branch.
