Gant, Harris earn RRAC weekly honors

NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's Kayla Gant (women's field) and Jade Harris (track) are the Red River Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week for April 7-13.
The RRAC announced the awards Tuesday. It's the third straight week that the Gold Nuggets swept the honors.
Gant — a senior from Chicago and a graduate of Gwendolyn Brooks High School — placed third in the hammer and the shot put at the Strawberry Relays in Hammond, La. Her mark of 34.46 meters/113 feet, 1 inch in the hammer is her college PR.
Harris — a junior from the Houston suburb of Sugar Land, Texas, and a graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School — produced her college PR of 14.22 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles at the Strawberry Relays and a second-place finish. Harris' time met the B-qualifying standard for NAIA nationals.
XULA's women and men have this week off, then will defend their team titles April 25-26 in the RRAC Championships at Tad Gormley Stadium in New Orleans.
