•  The first HBCU to win a relay race at the Penn Relays
•  In order, the team consisted of Herb Douglas, William Morton, Clarence Doak, and Howard Mitchell
•  On the opening day of the meet on Friday, April 24, 1942, Douglas, Morton, Doak and Mitchell won the 440-yard relay in 41.7 seconds . . . They finished ahead of Pittsburgh, Penn and Penn State
•  Also that day and prior to the relay, Doak won the 400-meter hurdles in 55.2 and beat athletes from Bloomsburg, North Carolina and NYU
