• In 1942 Douglas, William Morton, Clarence Doak and Howard Mitchell ran the
440-yard relay,
in 41.7 seconds to make XULA
the first HBCU to win a relay race at the Penn Relays
• XULA's only Olympic medalist — long-jumped 7.54 meters/24 feet, 9 inches in London to win bronze
on July 31, 1948
• A double honoree in 2022 on the inaugural XULA Athletics Hall of Fame;
he was selected as an individual and as a member of that 1942 relay team
• Departed XULA after two years to return home (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and work in his father's business during World War II
• Enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh in 1945 and starred there in football and track and field
• Ascended to vice president in the late 1960s for wine and spirits importer Schieffelin & Somerset Co.
• Received an honorary degree from XULA on May 7, 2011
